Inclusion & Vibe Values

All people are welcome at The Pier Festival.

Whilst we are inclusive to all members of our community, the festival is designed around queer women, gender diverse & their supportive friends allys, with a focus on queer women in music and artists of diverse gender.

Welcoming all who are comfortable in a space that canters their experience around a women’s experience.

We wanted a place where we can explain this in a little more detail. So here it is; our focus and inclusion values.

According to a 2017 SBS sexuality article, "Australian music has long been a domain of straight white men, with minority voices fighting for their spot to be recognised. Overtly queer female identifying music is still overlooked by the mainstream or met with baffled response."

We wanted to create a festival that supports and leverages the excellence that queer women and gender diverse artists present.

Along with the support of the Midsumma festival, we designed this event to create a safe space for queer women and their friends to come together and celebrate queer artists and their work.

In 2021 we launched The Pier Festival, with an amazing line up of queer women artists, hosts, comedians, burlesque and more. Queer women and their supportive friend's came in drones. In a feedback survey we sent out post event, the attendees said they felt “safe”, “included” “felt like “they could be themselves” and loved “the showcase of talented queer women”

We successful achieved what we set out to do, and the feedback from the attendees and the communities was great.

We do know that not only queer women attended the festival, we know that gender diverse and supportive friends/allies attended and had a great time. Which was awesome.

We have consulted with the communities to understand how keep growing the festival keeping to our fundamental focus, while creating an inclusive and safe festival for our queer and gender diverse, trans friends.

In 2023 you will see a range of queer women and gender diverse musicians, artists entertainment.

We also welcome all positive vibes in the way of supportive queer women, gender diverse and allies in attendance.

We also promise to continue to work towards accessibility of the festival and will implement all of learnings into the future.
